AstorinoDo you know a senior who has made a positive difference in Westchester County through his or her professional life, volunteer work or both? If so, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino invites you to nominate this person for the Westchester Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, now in its 32nd year.

"The Senior Hall of Fame is a proud Westchester tradition," Astorino said. "It is a wonderful way to recognize seniors who have generously given their time and energy to benefit their communities and the county at large. Don't miss this opportunity to put someone special in the limelight."

Nominations are due by Sept. 19 and can be submitted at www.westchestergov.com/seniors. If you prefer to mail your nomination, contact Rose Cappa at  or (914) 747-0519.

Those selected will be inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame at a festive luncheon on Friday, Dec. 5 in the Grand Ballroom of the Westchester Marriott Hotel.

To be nominated, a person must:

  • Be at least 60 years old and live in Westchester
  • Have made significant contributions to improve life in the county
  • Be an outstanding leader or advocate
  • Have done professional work that reflects innovative solutions to fulfill unmet community needs (if nomination is based on paid professional work)
  • Not be a past Hall of Fame inductee (see list of former inductees at www.westchestergov.com/seniors).

Please keep in mind that we are looking for more than biographical facts. We would also like anecdotes that show why this person is unique.

All nominations will be reviewed by a judging committee of past Senior Hall of Fame honorees, members of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) Aging Network, the county's Senior Council and the Older Americans Act Advisory Council.

DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter said that seniors have helped Westchester to become known for its renowned quality of life.

"Part of that recognition is because today's older generation developed a way of life that reflects the caring and generosity of its people," she said. "Dynamic seniors have made enormous contributions to Westchester over many years."

Gala sponsors are DSPS, Westchester County Parks and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services.
