With the arrival of spring, County Executive Robert P. Astorino has issued the annual call for volunteers to join "Pitch In for Parks," the county's largest one-day spruce up of the county parks, pathways and nature centers, Sunday, April 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at many Westchester County Parks locations. Rain date is Saturday, April 20.

Volunteers in this annual program play an active role in the stewardship of the more than 18,000 acres of Westchester County parks, trails and nature centers. They can choose a favorite park and help with such tasks as trail clearing and pruning, flower bed preparation, debris removal, staining, painting, sweeping and cleaning. Businesses can also join the effort by donating snacks and beverages.

"Pitch In for Parks is the largest single-day volunteer activity of the year in the county," Astorino said. "I invite everyone to get out in the fresh spring air, enjoy some exercise and have some fun. Together, we can accomplish great things all over the county parks on this one day."

Volunteers are welcome to Pitch In for an hour or two, or the whole day and should dress appropriately for work. Work gloves, cleaning tools and supplies will be provided for volunteers who sign up in advance.
