County Executive George Latimer has appointed Katrina R. Alexander to Deputy Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Social Services (DSS), filling the post that was vacated by now Commissioner Leonard Townes. Alexander, who was serving as lead manager of Westchester County’s largest Social Services field office in Yonkers, has been working for Westchester County Government at the Department of Social Services for the past 29 years.

Latimer said: “The appointment of Katrina Alexander to Deputy Commissioner of DSS is well deserved. Katrina brings a wealth of experience, administering emergency services to adults and families, housing services, medical services, childcare services and other support programs to Westchester’s residents for many years. As a dedicated employee for nearly 30 years, I know her knowledge and leadership will serve us well in our largest County department.”

DSS Commissioner Leonard Townes said: “Ms. Alexander is a welcomed addition to the Department’s leadership team. She’s a proven leader who brings creativity and a wealth of experience and expertise in various social services program areas. She will be a critical player in our efforts to unify the delivery of our Child Welfare and Temporary Assistance services.”

Alexander said: “I’d like to thank County Executive George Latimer and Commissioner Leonard Townes for this opportunity. I am very passionate about the work that we do at DSS where our staff provides much needed services to help families improve their wellbeing. In this new role, I look forward to increased collaboration with stakeholders in our communities to help people in need to reach self -sufficiency.”
