Westchester County Executive George Latimer welcomed Mamaroneck High School students Jackson Owen and Sam Smoltz to the County Office Building in White Plains, where he presented the two young men with certificates of recognition, after they raised $51,000 for Alzheimer’s research last month.
The Mamaroneck High School juniors took over Aces for Alzheimer’s, founded by their sisters in 2015. Once the sisters went off to college, Smoltz and Owen made it their mission to continue raising money and planning community outreach programs, including a Virtual Team Trivia Night in April in which County Executive Latimer gave remarks.
Latimer said: “To see this next generation paving the way to helping fund a cure for Alzheimer’s is commendable, and being able to surpass last year’s amount raising $51,000, during a global pandemic deserves recognition. I know their parents are proud, their sisters are proud, but most of all Westchester County is proud of the steps these young men have taken to raise awareness and educate people about this terrible disease.”
The money goes directly to Weill Cornell Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic, which focuses on cutting-edge prevention strategies and comprehensive education. Last year, Aces for Alzheimer’s raised $50,000.
