(White Plains, NY) – Westchester County Executive George Latimer hosted a COVID-19 updated at the Regent Street Senior Apartment complex in Port Chester. The affordable housing development, which is 100 percent affordable and designated for seniors age 62 and older, served as an example of an active construction site that is open, and following all social distancing guidelines. Because the complex is comprised of 100% affordable housing units, it was exempt from any shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Regent Street Senior Apartments are located at 25 South Regent Street in Port Chester. The County invested in the complex in order to help the developer lower the rents on these apartments, to make more affordable housing opportunities for Westchester County’s senior citizens. Westchester County is now accepting applications to be considered in the lottery for one of the units, and applications are available on the County’s Homeseeker page. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 15.
The four-story residential building is made up of 34 one and two bedroom rental apartments for seniors who are income eligible. The building also includes a fitness center, community room, patio, deck and on-site parking spaces. The apartments were designed with specific materials, fixtures and appliances to reduce demands on electricity and increase energy efficiency, reduce water usage and improve air quality. The development is located close to Port Chester’s downtown area, with shopping, restaurants, recreation and places of worship in walking distance. Rents start as low as $619 a month and go up to $1484 per month, including heat.
