As Andrew J. O'Rourke steps into his role as Transportation Assistant at the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT), he is reflecting on the influence of his grandfather, the late Andrew P. O'Rourke, who served as the County Executive from 1982 to 1997.

O'Rourke said: “Although we only had a brief 18 years together, my grandfather taught me much and imparted values in me that I feel can be appreciated by anyone; those being loyalty, integrity and humor.”

Former County Executive Andrew P. O'Rourke was a man committed to Westchester and its people, he is also remembered for his ability to reach across the aisle when the people's best interests were on the line.

“I am honored to be part of Westchester County Government under the leadership of Westchester County Executive George Latimer.  This is a great opportunity to be a part an organization that values public service and a commitment to the greater good, much like my grandfather did while here.  I know my grandfather would be very proud.”

Andrew’s father, Andrew P. O’Rourke II, also served as a member of the New York State Government, working with the New York State Thruway Authority on the development of the new Hudson River Bridge, named for Governor Mario Cuomo.

County Executive George Latimer said: “It's a pleasure to have Andrew J. O'Rourke join our team. He is a talented individual with a bright future and I look forward to working with Andrew as we continue to serve the people of Westchester County. He continues a family legacy of public service.”

O'Rourke, a native of Yonkers, comes to the County equipped with a diverse background in law, sales, commerce and the automotive industry. Now in DPWT he aims to leverage his skills to enhance the transportation services in Westchester County.
