In a significant step towards advancing Westchester’s sustainable and environmentally conscious governing, Westchester County has officially joined the Green Purchasing Communities Program created by the State of New York.
The Green Purchasing Communities Program, administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Office of General Services (OGS), provides guidelines and support for organizations seeking to expand their procurement practices into their operations. This is done by focusing on sourcing products and services that meet rigorous environmental standards. These efforts are part of Westchester County’s actions to contribute to the broader goal of reducing the carbon footprint and promoting a circular economy.
County Executive George Latimer said: “Westchester County is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable practices. By joining the Green Purchasing Communities Program, we reaffirm our dedication to reducing our environmental impact and promoting a more sustainable economy. This initiative not only benefits our community today but also ensures a better tomorrow for generations to come.”
The Program, designed to encourage public entities to prioritize environmentally friendly products and services, aligns with Westchester County's ongoing commitment to a greener and healthier future.
