Health   Justice
Protecting public health is the job of the Health Department. This includes enforcing sanitary codes, regulating air and water quality, providing back-to-school immunizations, combating contagious diseases, educating the public about health risks and much more.  vertical line Probation handles 2,000 Family Court cases and 11,000 criminal court cases annually, collecting up to $1 million in restitution for victims each year. The county jail and penitentiary hold 8,500 male and female inmates each year under the supervision of the Correction Department.

Parks   Public Safety
There is plenty to do outdoors. Spanning 18,000 acres and over 50 locations, our parks include six golf courses, eight pools and beaches, 200 miles of hiking and biking trails and spectacular waterfront views of the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. Seniors   Social Services
Our Livable Communities initiative keeps seniors active and independent by providing services that help keep them in their homes. Salute to Seniors, Senior Law Day, Golden Harvest and the Seniors Hall of Fame are annual, signature events that also make Westchester a great place for seniors.   vertical line Westchester’s safety net for our most vulnerable residents is more than $550 million strong. Burning fire, call 9-1-1. Burning question, call 2-1-1. This free, confidential helpline is open 365 days a year and is available in over 250 languages. Information and referrals are also available at 2-1-1 for help.
