May 30, 2019 -- Westchester County Executive George Latimer has announced that $5 million in funding will be made available to the Regent Street Senior Apartment Complex in Port Chester. The grant, which has been awarded through the New York State Homes & Community Renewal’s 2018 Unified Funding application, is part of a larger $175 million investment made by Governor Andrew Cuomo to preserve more than 2,185 affordable homes across New York State.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “Too many families struggle with housing costs across the County, and everyone deserves to have a safe, affordable place they can call home. This critical funding will not only help to revitalize the community of Port Chester, but will also ensure that more seniors and families have access to decent, affordable housing. I thank Governor Cuomo for his commitment to preserving and creating affordable homes in Westchester.”
Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Planning Norma Drummond said: “We are thrilled that one of our senior housing developments in the Village of Port Chester has received funding through the competitive Unified Funding Application. Westchester County has already committed $4.3 million for land acquisition and infrastructure, so we are well on our way to providing additional affordable housing opportunities for Westchester County residents.”
The funding has been allocated for the construction of a four-story elevator building, the Regent Street Senior Apartments. The 34-unit complex, which is close to the Carver Community Center, will be built in a mixed-use neighborhood with commercial retail centers and municipal services. The other communities that have been awarded funding through the Mid-Hudson Valley awards include Newburgh, Thompson and Liberty.
