April 18, 2019 – Westchester County George Latimer is encouraging all County residents and businesses to join him in “unpowering” on Earth Day, April 22, from 1-2pm.  The Unpower Hour is an energy savings initiative where workers and residents are asked to switch off as many lights, appliances and equipment as possible to reduce usage.

Latimer said: “Westchester County might be small compared to the rest of the planet, but we can have a big impact if we work together to fight climate change.  This Earth Day, join me for Unpower Hour and let us show the power individuals can have to better the planet.”

Those who partake in the initiative please share on social media with the hashtag #UnpowerHour.  This initiative was inspired by Weill Cornell Medicine, the organization has been taking part in this for over a decade.

Westchester County Director of Energy & Sustainability Peter McCartt said: “Here in Westchester, we are undertaking numerous initiatives – both big and small - to do our part in helping to preserve our environment and planet. This Earth Day, do your part and spread the word - make sure your friends, family and co-workers “unpower” from 1-2pm. Small efforts like this can add up to make a big difference.”
