April 5, 2019 -- Westchester County’s African American Advisory Board and Hudson River Healthcare are hosting an Affordable Housing Community Forum called “From Wanting to Having” on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HRHCare Jeannette J. Phillips Health Center at 1037 Main Street in Peekskill. The community forum is intended to provide the tools that are necessary to achieve homeownership, as well as information on how to access affordable rentals in Westchester County.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “This community forum is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the Affordable Housing process in Westchester, as well as the County’s commitment to creating a variety of fair and affordable housing options. There will be experts on hand to answer questions about how to access rentals and prepare for homeownership, as well as connect people with the resources they need to make the right move.”
Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Planning Norma Drummond was the guest speaker at the event. Drummond said: “There are many families who haven’t considered that what they pay in rent could actually start their investment in their own home, through the County’s affordable housing programs. This forum is an opportunity to learn more about where to find the information and resources on all the affordable housing options available now and what’s in the pipeline.”
Chair of the African American Advisory Board Barbara Edwards said: “The African American Advisory Board recognizes that affordable housing is a critical part of sustainable communities and economic growth. In addressing housing concerns we have established partnerships with various organizations to collaborate in working toward identifying and offering tools to housing seekers in all income levels, with particular emphasis on low-and middle income households.”
The event partners include A.S.A.P. Mortgage Corporation, Preservation Company, Peekskill NAACP Economic Empowerment Committee and Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce. The event is open to the public, but registration is required. The first 50 guests to register will receive a free gift bag and the chance to win a free raffle gift.
