County SealJanuary 25, 2019 -- Westchester County Executive George Latimer is pleased to announce that Ana Hiraldo-Gomez, Manager of Information Technology Shared Services in the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), has been selected to serve a three-year term on the New York State Geospatial Advisory Council. The Council serves a crucial role in guiding the statewide Geographical Information System (GIS) with geospatial data for Westchester County. GIS is an application where geographical information is stored in layers, and integrated with geographic software programs so spatial information can be created, stored, analyzed and mapped.

Latimer said: “I am very proud that Ana Hiraldo-Gomez, and our Department of Information Technology is at the forefront of GIS technology. Back in 2000, our own Westchester County GIS pioneered the development of the first County-wide digital base map, which now provides the spatial foundation of the County’s GIS program. Today, many Westchester County GIS products and services are also integrated into content for commercial and third-party applications.”

Westchester County Chief Information Officer of the Department of Information Technology Marguerite Beirne said: “Congratulations to Ana on this important appointment which will bring her many years of GIS experience to the state level. Ana and the entire Westchester County GIS team deserve to be commended for their leadership, and I look forward to tracking the progress of this council and seeing Westchester’s imprint on geospatial initiatives across New York State.”

The County houses its own state-of-the-art GIS facility in White Plains. Leveraging the latest technologies, Westchester County GIS is one of the County’s most popular shared services to municipalities, providing critical data and geospatial support in program areas that range from emergency response and public safety to transportation, land use and public health.
