July 16, 2018 -- Westchester County Executive George Latimer has signed an Executive Order to establish a Westchester County Probation Advisory Board. The Board will be comprised of a diverse group of members who have a deep knowledge of our local communities and criminal justice system, who can assist with providing guidance to the Westchester County Department of Probation.

Latimer said: “The Probation Advisory Board will work in tandem with the Department of Probation to ensure public safety, reduce recidivism and prevent overcrowding in our jails. The Board can also promote the implementation of alternatives to incarceration, so that low risk criminal offenders can serve a sentence of supervised release rather than jail time.”

Latimer will appoint six of the Probation Advisory Board’s nine members, and the Westchester County Board of Legislators will recommend the remaining three. The Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Probation will also serve as an ex officio member of the Board, and will provide quarterly reports of the Department’s activity to the Board members for review.

Latimer’s Executive Order takes effect immediately.
