StepinacMay 17, 2018 - After hours of practice and hundreds of free throws, the Stepniac Boys Basketball team won the 2018 New York State Federation AA Tournament of Champions. Their dedication to the court lead them to be the 2018 NY State Catholic AA Champions, 2018 NY Archdiocesean AA Champaions and ended the season ranked #11 in the Country.

County Executive George Latimer said: “We’re here to salute the Stepinac basketball team for their outstanding season, one they will remember for all of their lives. They’ve won the New York State of the Federation, a tough competition that involves many different levels of success and brought these gentlemen to where they are today, champions of New York State.”

Latimer presented each player, coach and manager with a certificate of achievement.

Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “This is an impressive accomplishment and a demonstration of great sportsmanship. Working as a team is a skill that these young men will use throughout their academic careers.”

Director of Operations Joan McDonald said: “It is great to see what you all have done as a team, as individual members of the team, and as students. You have made the city of White Plains and the County of Westchester proud. Have fun, enjoy your summer and good luck in your future endeavors!”

Coach Patrick Massaroni said: “On behalf of Stepinac High School and our basketball program, we’d like to thank the County, specifically County Executive Latimer and your staff for honoring us today and giving us this recognition. As you said, this is an unbelievable team and a group of great young men that work so well on and off the court. It is a great honor to be here today and I know all these young men in the room will appreciate this not only now, but many years down the line.”
