May 7, 2018 – On Tuesday, May 1 the Westchester County Planning Board hosted its monthly meeting, and for the first time, a video recording is available for all Westchester County residents to see. The concept follows a promise that was made by Westchester County Executive George Latimer for maintaining transparency in government.

During his campaign for Westchester County Executive, Latimer said: “There are very important decisions made at these meetings on a wide range of issues, like infrastructure investment, County facilities, affordable housing and development referrals from municipalities. There is a lot of talent on the Planning Board with representation from throughout the County’s cities, towns and villages, who are able to look at these proposals objectively.”

Chair of the Westchester County Planning Board Richard Hyman said: “It is always good to have the public be able to view the deliberations of the boards that make the decisions in Westchester County. Hopefully, this will serve as a way to work more cooperatively with our local municipalities.”

The Westchester County Planning Board formulates and recommends major planning and development ideas by way of statements, site plans, maps and other materials, to serve as a guide for creating developments within the County that are necessary, cost-effective and attractive.

Starting next month, the Planning Department’s meetings will be held at various County facilities to make them more accessible. In the future, the meetings will be streamed live.
