Astorino Kicks Off 4th of July with Opening of New Sprain Ridge PoolJuly 4, 2017 - County Executive Robert P. Astorino today kicked off the Fourth of July by celebrating the re-opening of Sprain Ridge Pool in Yonkers. The $7.7 million water park renovation includes a new children’s aquatic spray ground, a child friendly pool, a refurbished concessions area, as well as an upgraded bathhouse and bathrooms.

“What better way to kick off this beautiful Independence Day than splashing around in this brand new, state-of-the-art pool facility,” said Astorino. “The new Sprain Ridge Pool is another gem in the crown of our spectacular Westchester County Parks system. Facilities like this make Westchester a great place to live and raise a family.”

The Sprain Ridge Pool – along with Playland Pool, Saxon Woods Pool, The Brook at Tibbetts, and Willson’s Waves Pool, is now open for the summer for residents young and old to enjoy. This phase of the Sprain Ridge Pool project took six months and was completed by ELQ Industries, Norberto Pools, and Clough Harbour & Associates. The facility’s improvements include:

  • A new colorful aquatic spray ground for children
  • A rebuilt wading pool with zero depth entry, an average depth of 30 inches, and a low point of 40 inches
  • A new pool deck
  • A new filter system
  • Repairs to the bathhouse and food concession area, including a new roof, repaired siding, repairs to the restrooms, showers, and locker room

A second phase of the project would be the renovation of the competition and lap pool. The Astorino Administration is preparing legislation and will be sending it to the Board of Legislators. If approved, the competition pool could be open next summer. The first phase of the project was completed thanks to a bi-partisan agreement with the Board of Legislators and Chairman Mike Kaplowitz.

All pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Twilight swim rates apply after 4 p.m. at all swimming facilities. A season swim pass is available for families, individuals and senior citizens who are Westchester County resident park pass holders. The pass can be purchased and used at all swimming facilities except Croton Point beach and Playland pool and beach.
