New look for county's Web site home pageWith the launch of Westchester’s new homepage, it should be easier than ever to find out about news and events around the county.

Want to know the latest legislative proposals or breaking news? Need to hire a contractor, make golf reservations, look for a special event or find a place to bring your recyclables? Maybe you’re looking for a summer camp or want free tax preparation assistance.

You’ll find it all here.

It’s all part of County Executive Robert P. Astorino’s plan to make government more efficient and accessible as well as improve delivery of services.

“The new site provides residents with information they need to know in a way that’s easily accessible,” Astorino said. “The goal is to keep all of us in the county connected.”

The new design is more user-friendly and includes information on everything from health and public safety to parks and recreation.  The intention is to give the feel of a newspaper -- visual, conversational and easy on the eye – so users can just scan the front page and pick out the sections that interest them.

The first story you’ll see every day is the new “spotlight” feature which will host the latest news or happening – and change on a regular basis. Other “recent news” highlights will fill out the center of the page, and “Westchester County in Pictures” will provide easy links to select events, programs and videos. You’ll also find quick and easy links to all county departments.

The “most popular” section will show you what hot topics others are interested in – this week, job openings, bus schedules and making golf reservations. Note the county’s new links to Facebook and Twitter.

Watch for more changes in the weeks and months ahead and feel free to give us your ideas and feedback.
