County Executive Robert P. Astorino, responded to the catastrophic magnitude -8.8 earthquake that hit Chile.

He offered his sympathy to those Westchester residents who have family and friends in this devastated South American country.

“Our heart goes out to the people of Chile and to the people of Chilean descent who live in Westchester who are concerned about family and friends,” Astorino said. The Westchester Chapter of the American Red Cross will help coordinate relief efforts from the Westchester area, according to its chief executive officer, John Ravitz.

“The American Red Cross is grateful for all the support the residents of Westchester County gave to relief and recovery operation in Haiti,” Ravitz said. “Just as our community mobilized together in that effort, we know that the residents of Westchester led by County Executive Astorino will do all that they can to help the people of Chile who are suffering in the aftermath of this massive earthquake.”

The chapter may be reached by telephone at (914) 946-6500 or at www.redcross.org for further information on how to help.
