|Protecting public health is the job of the Health Department. This includes enforcing sanitary codes, regulating air and water quality, providing back-to-school immunizations, combating contagious diseases, educating the public about health risks and much more.||Probation handles 2,000 Family Court cases and 11,000 criminal court cases annually, collecting up to $1 million in restitution for victims each year. The county jail and penitentiary hold 8,500 male and female inmates each year under the supervision of the Correction Department.|

|There is plenty to do outdoors. Spanning 18,000 acres and over 50 locations, our parks include six golf courses, eight pools and beaches, 200 miles of hiking and biking trails and spectacular waterfront views of the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. We are also reinventing Playland for the 21st century for year-round.||The Department of Public Safety is on duty 24/7, patrolling our airport, parkways, parks and hundreds of county roads, buildings and facilities. |Our Livable Communities initiative keeps seniors active and independent by providing services that help keep them in their homes. Salute to Seniors, Senior Law Day, Golden Harvest and the Seniors Hall of Fame are annual, signature events that also make Westchester a great place for seniors.||Westchester’s safety net for our most vulnerable residents is more than $550 million strong.
