Hundreds of bicyclists, joggers, skaters and strollers will gather to bring the 40th anniversary season of Westchester County's popular Bicycle Sundays to a festive close with live music and a tailgate party from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, in the large parking lot on the east side of the Bronx River Parkway at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave., White Plains.

"What a great way for everyone to celebrate 40 years of Bicycle Sundays," said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. "I want to thank Friends of Parks for their continued partnership and enthusiastic support of Bicycle Sundays. By channeling needed funding and bringing in sponsors like Con Edison and the Westchester Cycle Club, Friends of Parks has kept one of the county's favorite programs rolling for all to enjoy."

At 2:15 p.m., officials will acknowledge the contributions of the Bicycle Sundays' principal sponsors, Con Edison and Friends of Westchester County Parks. Con Edison and Friends of Parks stepped forward for the third consecutive year in 2014 to underwrite the entire Bicycle Sundays program.

From noon to 4 p.m., the Westchester Cycle Club, The Journal News and Friends of Westchester County Parks will host a tailgate party at the County Center parking lot. Live music will be performed by Chris Brown's Bookends Band and Rauch's Tall County, a Putnam-based string band. Everyone is invited to bring a grill and coolers to tailgate; food vendors will offer various lunch and snack items.

Miss Hudson Valley, Miss Hudson Valley Teen, Miss Westchester and Miss Westchester Teen will be joining in the celebration.

More than 60,000 people take part in Bicycle Sundays each year on weekends in May, June and September, when a portion of the Bronx River Parkway between the County Center and Scarsdale Road in Yonkers closes to cars and is made available to bicyclists, joggers, walkers, strollers and in-line skaters.
