The Census American Community Survey estimates that 7,629 Westchester residents are Filipino as of 2012, up from 4,882 in 2000 and that 6,182 county residents were born in the Philippines. They comprise more than one percent of the population of Yonkers, Elmsford and Greenburgh.
There numbers may be relatively small, but the need for help to the Philippines is enormous in the aftermath of the devastating typhoon that hit that country on Friday, Nov. 8.
"I urge people to be generous," said County Executive Robert P. Astorino, "just as our county residents have always been with disaster relief."
