County Executive Latimer Signs 2024 County Budget Solidifying the County’s Fiscal Stability
We offer support for the County’s most vulnerable residents by funding Federally Qualified Health Centers, helping children with special needs, providing safety net services and programs to address food insecurity, address the digital divide, workforce development, all while also supporting arts and cultural programs and addressing flooding across Westchester. This is a balanced, fiscally responsible budget that assists all residents. -- Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Signing of the 2024 Budget
The Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) plans, oversees and coordinates services for individuals with behavioral health issues and their families. Behavioral health includes mental illness, developmental/intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.
County Executive Robert P. Astorino recently visited Furniture Sharehouse in White Plains to encourage Westchester residents to donate used furniture and help families in need as opposed to throwing items away.
“Furniture Sharehouse gives people the chance to make a house a home,” Astorino said. “Too often I see perfectly good furniture out on the curb on garbage day. These are couches, tables, night stands, desks – you name it – that could be going to help someone build a life for themselves with dignity. Plus, by donating furniture, we are helping the environment as well as taxpayers. It’s really a win all around.”
Furniture Sharehouse, a nonprofit organization located at the Westchester County Airport Building #3, is the winner of a 2013 Westchester County Earth Day Award for its recycling efforts. Founded in 2007, Furniture Sharehouse has collected and redistributed over 35,000 items to more than 6,800 individuals.
“We are delighted that County Executive Astorino came to see us in action recycling gently-used furniture from generous Westchester residents directly to families in need to help them fill their empty apartments and begin to rebuild their lives,” said Kate Bialo, Executive Director of Furniture Sharehouse. “There is a lot of great furniture out there that we can find a new home for with grateful families, and we appreciate the County's efforts to help us spread the word about Furniture Sharehouse.”
Furniture Sharehouse accepts donations on-site, at designated community drop-offs, and also will pick up large items that meet their donation guidelines. To learn more, visit http://www.furnituresharehouse.org/.
