Bee-Line system wins award from TSAWestchester County's Bee-Line bus system has been awarded a Gold Standard rating by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for its commitment to building a strong security system.

The Bee-Line is one of 16 mass transit agencies across the nation to receive this award.

County Executive Robert P. Astorino said of the award: "We have worked to make sure our Bee-Line is safe for all, and we continue to improve our security through programs such as our 'See Something, Say Something' campaign, our most recent initiative. We are pleased to have been recognized."

The "See Something, Say Something" campaign, known as "Bee-Aware," was launched this past spring to remind the public and Bee-Line riders to report any suspicious packages.

The Gold Standard award is given to mass transit agencies that meet specific security requirements set by the TSA. The evaluation by the TSA focuses on security plans, security training, drills/exercise programs, public outreach efforts and background-check programs. The Bee-Line system was reviewed and attained high scores across all categories.

Of the agencies that received the Gold Standard, TSA administrator John S. Pistole said: "These agencies are to be commended for their commitment and hard work that this level of achievement requires. TSA commends these agencies for their continued dedication to ensure the security of travelers nationwide."

The Bee-Line covers Westchester County with 61 lines. More than 65 percent of county residents are within walking distance of a Bee-Line bus route.  For more information and a bus schedule, visit www.westchestergov.com/bee-line.

"Our hard work has paid off and we are honored to have been recognized by the TSA," said Patricia Chemka, the deputy commissioner of Department of Public Works and Transportation, which oversees the bus system.
