Snow covered street

Due to the winter storm warning that has been issued for Westchester from midnight until 6 a.m. Friday, residents are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about weather conditions.

The storm is forecasted to bring ten to fourteen inches snow accumulations and blizzard conditions. The bulk of precipitation will move in after midnight and last through Thursday evening. Roads will remain hazardous throughout the storm.

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino has ordered a limited activation of the county's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Valhalla in advance of Thursday's potentially major winter storm. The action is being taken so that county officials, work crews and emergency personnel can be properly positioned and prepared in the event of any emergency situation.

The EOC will be staffed through the night as the storm is expected to begin overnight.

In addition, Astorino has spoken with Con Edison and NYSEG officials about increasing their staffing in the case of any power outages.

"While our experts continue to monitor the storm's path, we are preparing for the worst and taking all the proper precautions. Residents should also monitor the weather reports and if possible, stay home and off the roads tomorrow," said Astorino.
