pepsiCounty Executive Robert P. Astorino and Lewisboro Supervisor Charles Duffy gave a personal thank you on Monday to Pepsi-Cola for donating 30 large “truly green” recycling barrels to help the town upgrade its community recycling program.

The 60-gallon containers, which are made of “plant based fully renewable resources,” will be placed in local parks to encourage residents to dispose of their bottles and cans.

Astorino pointed to the gesture as an example of Pepsi once again being a good corporate neighbor and said he wanted to take the opportunity to thank the company for continuing to be part of the Westchester community.

“The Pepsi companies have always played a big role here and we are proud to have this multi-national corporation in our midst,” Astorino said.

After years of speculation and efforts by the state of Connecticut to woo the company across the border, Pepsi Bottling Company announced last month that it would keep its headquarters in Somers, thanks to the help of financial inducements from the county’s Industrial Development Agency. PepsiCo also has its worldwide headquarters in Purchase.
