Astorino meets with League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook and Port ChesterGood conversation on issues facing Westchester characterized the evening Thursday, Jan. 20, when County Executive Robert P. Astorino attended an informal gathering of the members of the League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester.

The event took place in the Rye home of a member and drew about 60 people. The chapter's president is Debbie Reisner.

Astorino praised the league for its never-ending involvement with government.

"More than any other organization that I can think of, the local and county leagues have been there involved with the goings on of government at all levels," he said. "Before there was Facebook and Twitter, you 'followed' us. Before there were blogs, you told us what you thought."

He added, "People count on you because you actually research your positions and deal with facts. In a world filled with media noise and buzz, your thoughtful research is more valuable than ever.

Astorino also gave the group an overview of what he feels his administration accomplished in 2010 and his goals for 2011.

"One thing I am very proud of is that we have started to change the mindset when it comes to taxes in Westchester," he said.

He said that the challenges of 2011 will be similar to those of 2010, saying, "The watchwords will be less is more. Less spending; more sharing. Less bureaucracy; more performance. Less taxes; more prosperity."
