Oct. 3, 2011 -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced today that FEMA will bring a mobile Disaster Recovery Center to the Village of Mamaroneck for three days this week.
The mobile center will be opened Thursday, Oct. 6; Friday, Oct. 7; and Saturday, Oct. 8, at Harbor Island Park, 100 Mamaroneck Ave., from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
"I thank FEMA for bringing its mobile center to Mamaroneck village," said Astorino. "The village was among those communities hardest hit by Hurricane Irene."
Previously, FEMA operated a DRC at the Westchester County Center in White Plains and a mobile center in Mount Kisco.
With Westchester being declared a disaster area by President Obama, residents and businesses are eligible to apply for disaster aid, along with local governments and nonprofit agencies. Residents and business may apply in person, online or by phone.
Applications will be accepted until the end of this month.
The first step is to register: by calling FEMA's registration number 1-800-621-3362; or online at www.disasterassistance.gov. For those with speech or hearing disabilities, use the TTY number at 800-462-7585. FEMA strongly advises people to register in advance of visiting the disaster center.
