Pelham Hockey ChampsJune 7, 2017 – Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino congratulated the Pelham Memorial High School hockey team who won the New York State Division II championship in March.
After 31 years, the Pelicans won their first title ever when they defeated Section 10 powerhouse St. Lawrence 7-1 at the Harbor Center in Buffalo. Pelham finished their championship season with a near-perfect record of 25-1.
“To win the state finals is always an amazing feat,” said Astorino. “To go 25-1 and bring home the first championship ever? It doesn’t get much sweeter than that. These guys should be very proud of themselves.”
The team was escorted by Head Coach Ed Witz and his staff, as well as Athletic Director Stephen Luciana.
The Superintendent of Pelham Schools is Dr. Peter Giarrizzo, and the Principal of Pelham Memorial High School is Jeannine Clark.
