FoodBankFeedaFamilyNov. 22, 2016 -- Food Bank for Westchester (FB4W) re-invented its annual turkey distributions for Thanksgiving and today launched a new campaign called “Feed a Family” to help hungry neighbors throughout the holiday season. The announcement took place at the Salvation Army in Tarrytown, which is one of Food Bank for Westchester’s mobile food pantry sites.

One donation of $25 will buy a holiday meal for a family of four and the campaign’s goal is to provide 1,000 holiday meals for families in need from now through December 31.

“The holidays are an especially difficult time for families and individuals in need of food assistance. The ‘Feed a Family’ campaign creates an impactful way for us come together and help end hunger,” said Ellen Lynch, President and CEO of the Food Bank for Westchester. “This campaign is not just about giving out turkeys to families; it’s about giving them the opportunity to create their own holiday memories and family traditions. I hope you’ll all join us in this effort so that together, we can bring an additional 1,000 families into the spirit of this holiday season.”

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino joined Lynch at the event today, which also involved handing out turkeys, chickens and other holiday meal ingredients to nearly 100 individuals in need.

“My hope is that every family has an opportunity to sit around the table and give thanks together this holiday season,” Astorino said. “The ‘Feed a Family’ campaign will go a long way towards making that a reality. And for that, I’m grateful.”

State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Village of Tarrytown Board of Trustees Karen Brown and Becky McGovern also attended the event.

The Food Bank for Westchester operates the county’s largest food collection and emergency distribution network, helping to feed and supply for its 300 front line hunger-relief programs throughout Westchester which include food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.

According to Lynch, no contribution is too small for the “Feed a Family” campaign. Local residents, business leaders and organizations can come together to donate, whether it’s $25 to feed one family, or $500 to feed 20 families.
